The word Tsurikawa simply translates to Tsuri – meaning hang, and Kawa – meaning leather. The Tsurikawa is essentially a hang-ring found on Japanese passenger trains and buses, suspended from overhead rails to assist standing travelers with a grip to steady themselves during their trip. Young gang associated juvenile delinquents known as Bosozoku were known to steal the Tsurikawa from public transport to fit inside their own cars, slipping their wrist through the ring and gripping the strap allowing them to safely hang their body out of the car window of their cars without fear of falling out!
Over time the act of stealing the Tsurikawa became a symbol of Anti-authoritarianism and the Tsurikawa were attached to the outside of heavily modified cars and bikes to show rebellion and disrespect to authority. These days, Japanese car enthusiasts are still flaunting the Tsurikawa in and outside their car to express their individuality.
NOTICE : Our Tsurikawa are not designed to be a functional hand grip and are purely decorative.
